Hello all
First post! My family and I are looking at relocating mid-year from Australia. It will be my wife’s working location within easy walk of either the South Huangpi Rd metro line 1 or the Xintiandi line 10. Her company will pay for schools and accommodation.
We have three children aged 7, 6, and 3. I am hoping we can get them into one of the International schools on line 10 in Honqqiao (I think there are three options there). I am hopeful all three offer school bus services to the Former French Concession….other posts seem to indicate they do.
I am looking for a family compound that offers an indoor pool, a children’s playground, and a gym, within walking distance to line 10 and line 1 metro. I have so far come across the Summit, which sounds to be in a reasonable location. The Chevalier is also opposite, which get OK reviews.
Are there any other options, or other areas of the FFC I should be looking at? i.e. is an expat apartment complex a ‘safe’ way to avoid total western isolation, or is renting in a local compound in a quieter area a superior experience? I love immersing in local cultures, but I have my children to consider!
As I will be the primary home-based family member, I want to be in the FFC, and being based between schools and my wife’s work, it seems a logical location. The area around the Summit, located between schools and my wife’s work, seems an attractive compromise – no more than 20-25min commute for either by bus or metro, but I’d love to hear from anyone with first-hand experience or other alternatives?
As a side note, I am almost qualified as a primary School teacher….does anyone have any experience on whether it is easy as an expat partner to secure part-time work or whether it is not possible at all.
Many thanks in advance for anyone’s input!
Cheers JK
