How many real estate agents to work with in Shanghai?

Question

Hi everyone, I’ll be coming to Shanghai for 10 days next week for business meetings and to handle my immigration permits. I also want to use this visit to try to find an apartment (will be moving in June).

Since I don’t have much time, I want to maximize my efforts.

How many agents do people tend to work with? is it best to use one exclusively? or 2,3,4??? Any recommendations on good agents?

Also, do you know if apartments can be visited during the weekend?

If you use too many agents, the chances are none of them will bother too much with you.

Probably two GOOD agents would be ideal. That way they will keep each other busy, and you will get to see two sorts, or levels of accommodation.

I think the weekends here would probably be the busiest times for agents and landlords alike.

I dont know if New York is like my home country (N.Z), where everything dies in the weekend. Even banks are open here on weekends. Love it.

Agencies are divided into expat agencies and local agencies. As a newcomer you’ll probably be looking at expat agencies.

They’ll all speak English and I would have thought most of them would be able to find places within a 5k budget. I’m not sure which agency to recommend, as I’m still newish to Shanghai.

Have a look on the housing section on this website and you’ll probably see a few adverts for different agencies.
