Hello everyone~
I am a local Shanghainese got married to a foreigner and we just had a baby. We applied for a foreign passport for the baby already and now we need a proper visa for the baby to live here in Shanghai.
I called the Entry and Exit Bureau in Pudong and the girl told me I need to apply for a single exit pass for the baby. We will have to take the baby outside China with this single exit pass and then apply for a visa overseas for the baby to come back into China.
I am just wondering if what she told me is really the case. Why cannot I just apply for a residence permit here in Shanghai for the baby? Many foreigners including my husband were granted a RP here. Is there anybody who did this (I mean applying for a RP or a proper visa for their babies born in Shanghai) before? Is it true that I have to take the baby out first and then come back in with a proper visa?
Thanks in advance!
Regards,
Jessica
